528 miles of pedaling and we're still alive!!! What a rush. Today was one of the more challenging days as we rode through stinging, chilly, rain. We left Eudora after a great BAK provided breakfast from Chris Cakes this morning. The ride was only about 30-ish miles so there was only going to be one sag stop. It was raining so hard that we never even saw it. We pulled over in a drive way and took shelter on someone's porch for a few minutes and then pressed foward. It felt like we had been riding forever and I couldn't figure out why there wasn't a sag. John said we hadn't been 15 miles yet and he kept saying it was probably just ahead. Then someone said we were only 8 miles from Leavenworth! The next thing I know we are passing the Leavenworth city limits sign! Riding through town was exciting because I knew we were so close. There were tons of hills to climb but I didn't care. About 5 or 10 minutes later we were pulling into the river side parking lot singing, "take me to the river....drop me in the water...." John's parents were right there waiting for us and as it continued to pour we happily walked our bikes down to the water and as is a BAK tradition, dipped our bikes in the river. We made it! I feel so accomplished and ready to take on another state. We're thinking maybe the Katy Trail across Missouri....
We are both so very thankful for Ron and Teresa watching Aaron for us and Sagging. Aaron had a great time hanging out with his grandparents. It was also very cool to ride with Matt and Jaquelyn. It made things seem more like a team thing. We didn't always stay together but we always got to hang out at night and it was just nice to spend time with family.
Would we do it again? You bet! I might consider sagging for BAK in the future sometime....it looks like they have a pretty good time too!
